I was into a very senior search assignment with a stakeholder who is very well known , powerful yet a laeder who takes a lot of time to really open up . In a meeting with him and his team I was asked for my opinion on some existing CEO's referred by the stakeholder himself wherein I hesistantly voiced my views in saying that I thought they did not fit the requirements . As is the rule the team members charged on me and started debating ( on behalf of the stakeholder ) in short putting my judgement at question . I felt scared and quite foolish yet as a value did not want to change my opinion on whim's of people . I politely stood up and said that my job was to point out my observations clearly in line with KRA's and JD given to me . I am happy to still get these candidates for discussion but would want to stand by my findings unless there is data to prove me wrong .
Suddenly the I saw the stakeholder smiling and he put his arm around me to say - You have not changed . I want you to now sit along with me on the panel . I agree with most of your findings and am happy that you are handling this assignment for us .
