As a business consultant you are asked to increase the production of the exisitng shopfloor for a manufacturing organisation. The first intiative taken by the consultant is?
1) Speak to the workers (employees) who are operating the machinery - This will help us to analyse the grass root level of effectiveness and efficiency.
This will determine the root cause which will be existing as the workers will be directly interacting with the machines and this helps the consultant to identify the Things Gone Wrong (TGW).

To increase the production output/day. As the efficiency is below par with the output. This is arrived through Time and Motion Study.
Kaizen activities were in place but they were not able to figure out the possible cause for the production lag.

Assign all the required materials to operate the machinery next to the operator. The timeline is tracked intially by performing Time Study and analysis.

The challenge faced is to increase the morale of the worker (operator) who is operating the machinery. As this determines the time taken for a single component to be delivered for a particular machine.
Benefits & Metrics
Buy performing some basic interations and graphical analysis the actual cycle time for a single component was considerable reduced. This inturn produced rich dividends in terms of the productivity.
Lazy operators to be identified and trained for proper involvement within the organisation.
Proper identification of the resource for that particular work will provide necessary solutions.
