Virtual Beverage De-siloization Hack

By Eugene Eric Kim on February 16, 2013

This is an adaptation of a sophisticated, perhaps patentable framework that I have painstakingly developed and implemented over the years to bust silos and build community. I've taken my 326-page dissertation on the subject and boiled it down to these five easy steps, customized specifically for the MIX:

  1. Pick two people whom you don't know here on the MIX and whom you find interesting.
  2. Use this platform to publicly call them out and invite them to a virtual coffee using the platform of your choice.
  3. Pick a time that works for the three of you, then open it up so that anyone else who's interested can join.
  4. Spend 45 minutes getting to know each other, then reserve the last 15 minutes to brainstorm a followup hack to post here on the MIX.
  5. Share what happened.

While I fully expect this idea to rack up hundreds, if not thousands of likes, in the interest of expediency, I'm going to hack this hackathon right now using this wonderful space and fascinating group of people. Aaron Anderson and Susan Resnick West, given that this hack was largely inspired by your two contributions, I would like to invite you to a virtual coffee sometime in the next two weeks on Google Hangout. If you choose to accept, we will find a date/time that works and post it here as a comment so that anyone may join. We'll spend the first 45 minutes delighting each other with entertaining stories about our lives, and the final 15 minutes coming up with another hack to share here. Hope you both decide to accept! Here's my challenge to anyone who likes this idea. Don't just "like" the idea. Implement this same hack in the comments section below. Or even better, hack the hack.

You need to register in order to submit a comment.

Oh, I was late to the party... what a shame.

I find this hack AWESOME! What I love the most about it is the fact that it establishes triadic relationships which are more powerful and prone to collaboration than the traditional dyadic (A to B) ones.

Hey Eugene, since we don't know each other, I invite you to a virtual coffe. Maybe we can invite Joris Luijke or Stephen Remedios or whoever you want, hehe.

I happily accept! Thank you for the invitation. I've heard a lot about you, and I'm looking forward to "meeting" you for real. I'm happy with whichever third person you choose. Let me know, and I'll send out a Doodle.

Hi Eugene,

We called out a couple of guys on this subject a few years ago, their names were Joe and Barack. The message about "people in silos, foxholes and trenches looking for better than ordnance"
