- I tell my students that a katana made of large steel can bounce off a small target made of straw; not just philosophically but in physical reality. The skill is in knowing the dynamics of your body, your sword weight, the position of your arms, your distance to target, your visual focus, the angle of the swing, the angle of the edge, the force of impact, the density of your target, and your surroundings. The art is when you forget all that and do it naturally.
