I’m a storyteller dedicated to discovering the people from all walks of life who are creating the future based on the their original ideas and bold ideals.
I’m passionate about the great outdoors (climbing its heights, diving into its depths, and doing my part to make sure we all keep breathing in its fresh air), health and good food (sweaty yoga, digging in the dirt, experimenting in the kitchen), reading between the lines, and learning something new every day.
I always try to follow the advice Don Juan gave Carlos Castaneda: to do everything as if it were the only thing in the world that mattered, while all the time knowing that it doesn’t matter at all.
We are at a genuine inflection point when it comes to how we organize human effort to productive ends. In this creative and disruptive economy, where the challenge is to inspire and mobilize the full imagination, initiative, and passion of every single person, every single day, leaders must rethink their organization’s boundaries, redesign work, redefine the work of leadership, and re-jigger their measure of value.
Specifically, organizations that are built to thrive in the 21 st century must focus both on unleashing human capacity —designing environments and systems for work that inspire individuals to contribute their full imagination, initiative, and passion—and on aggregating human capability —leveraging new social, mobile, and digital technologies to activate, enlist, and organize talent across boundaries.
Those are the twin challenges we tackled with the Unlimited Human Potential M-Prize . We put out the call for the most progressive practices and innovative ideas for unleashing human capability . And we asked, how can we tap into emerging digital technologies and the principles that undergird them (such as transparency, collaboration, meritocracy, openness, community and autonomy) to create organizations that are truly fit for human beings?

We are delighted to announce this year’s MIX Mashup : three days of the most progressive thinkers, disruptive ideas, and powerful practices making our organizations fit for the future—and fit for human beings.
This year, the MIX Mashup will be held in New York City on November 18-20, 2014 .
The MIX Mashup gathers the vanguard of management innovators —pioneering leaders, productive rebels, courageous experimenters, and agenda-setting thinkers from every realm of endeavor. The event is designed to showcase advanced thinking and ambitious experiments—and to inspire, equip, and connect aspiring management innovators in the collective project of reinventing management for a new age.
Let’s face it, there is a whole lot more enthusiasm for making organizations more open, dynamic, and free than there is progress. Why? Control has been the iron fist behind too many organizations for too long. And unleashing freedom inside them requires dismantling deeply-embedded management principles and practices. Of course, it’s not an either/or proposition. The real trick—and the far greater degree of difficulty—is reimagining organizations, redesigning work, redefining leadership and rethinking the measure of value in a way that transcends the tradeoff between freedom and control.
Thanks to the emerging ecosystem of digital, mobile, social technologies and the principles that undergird them—including openness, community, collaboration, experimentation, meritocracy, and autonomy—we can imagine organizations that are both large and human scale, efficient and flexible, disciplined and inspiring. And thanks to the participants in the Digital Freedom Challenge , we don’t have to just imagine them—we can explore dozens of real-world case studies and bold new approaches to dramatically expanding individual autonomy at work without compromising the ability to scale, coordinate, and get important things done together.
Today we are delighted to announce the winners of the Digital Freedom Challenge. But first, we’d like to thank the...

It’s the most universal and intractable challenge leaders in organizations of every stripe in every realm of endeavor face: how do you spread success? How do you take local victories—profound insights, clever inventions, powerful connections—and weave them into the broader fabric of an organization? How do you replicate the mindset and approaches of the most productive, compelling, and creative individuals across a whole system? How do you scale the best and leave the rest?
