Disrupting details

New ideas and methods often get bogged down in small details, that, if left unchecked, could potentially grow into serious problems. Consequently we go from fixing these details one by one and loose momentum for change. You're right in seeing some risk aversion here; I am dean in a failry large undergraduate school, we donot like to take risks with school careers of students or with our reputation.
