Usually when a company speaks of leaders they are speaking of those they have hired to be leaders and not those who have rose to leadership. Leadership is a natural position and the basis of human survival. Leaders are not just those hired into a management role but are those who see the needs of a company and rises to fill the need.
A "Prove It" system where associates prove their leadership by fulfilling needs not asked of them and displaying autonomy beyond chaotic circumstances. Leadership is to lead others through action, motivation, respect and ownership.
Leadership should not be tied to one person or a pay grade but to an action.
Allow associates to rise naturally into leadership roles through proven leadership not just results.
Allow leadership to become the symbol of effective work.
Leadership should cross all hierarchies and boundaries and be limitless to all employees within a company.
Leaders within a company should not have to be asked, given a title, or more money before they feel compelled to complete a task needed by the company. Pay grade often seperates management from workers, the process, and true leadership. A company that runs solely on the feeling of ownership the associates have will allow leaders to rise into their atural places.
Companies are spending millions on developing their "leaders" and many who can only study leadership but not apply it because they are not natural leaders. To fix this companies should:
Hire employees at the same level and allow them to step in and out of leadership roles which will create a culture that promotes accountable, purpose driven, resourceful, and talented leaders.
Make all employees Ambassadors of leadership through promoting ownership and accountability.
Promote associates through evaluating acts of leadership and results not just one or the other.
