ITRIZ is currently used for solving technological problems. I´ve used it solve management problems, since management is a "technology" used to manage social systems it has worked well. The metodology uses a database extracted from the way pattents have been used to solve other "systemic problems" and one uses these "sistemic solutions" analogicaly to solve your own problems. Certainly the database would be more usefull if the examples would be of a business nature, which certainly can be done. The methodology has several core concepts that apply perfectly to the business world. The main benefit of the methodology woulb be to have a clear understanding of complex sistemic problemas and that you can produce up to 90% of the solutions available for the problem. Having such a near exhaustive number of solutions guarantees statistically that the best solutions has been found.
The biggest value generating solutions are found in typical trade off situations. ITRIZ works best when trying to takle these types of problems.

I'm not familiar with ITRIZ. Can you say a little more about what it is and what it is usually used for? Sounds like you're repurposing a tool for tech innovation and applying it to management innovation? If so, would love to hear more details of how this has worked out.

You can find more information about the methodology in www.ideationtriz.com. The mayority of the examples there are of the technical type. I for my part have used it mostly in idea generation at strategic level.
