Creating leaders across the organization begins with valuing every employee's contributions. Instead of giving feedback during the annual performance evaluation, managers and supervisors could use an Appreciative Approach and gain understanding related to 1) what the employee's strengths are that add to the overall mission of the organization, 2) how the employee's dreams for the future could benefit others, 3) suggestions for what the organization could be based on the contributions and dreams, 4) and plans for the employee to achieve their (and the organization's) dreams.
Questions could include:
What’s the smallest change that you could make or that the organization could make that would result in the biggest impact?
Tell me about a time when you/we/your team were at our very best.
What possibilities exist that we have not yet considered?
What solutions and ideas do you have that would help us achieve our mission?
