Ranking smanking - What's the goal?

By Susan Resnick West on February 13, 2013

I’m not clear what the rankings mean or how to evaluate them. I’m reminded of the Chase Facebook million dollar competitions that ask participants to vote for the most worthy non-profit. The winners tend to be organizations that have an active social media strategy and as a result increase Chase’s mailing list. What if the “price” for leaving a ranking on the MIX is contributing ideas that will help the intervention in the story/hack become a 5. The ranking is really unclear. Not all ways of getting to the site will allow you to rank the submission or see the ranking even when logged in! Clicking the link in the Innovating Innovation announcement or the HBR blog don’t get you to a version of the entry that can be ranked. The announcement asks people to “rank” the submissions and some folks commented to me that there was no way to rank the submission.
