We strongly belief, that the first prerequisite for adaptability of an organization is a flexible, adaptable even enlightened leader, who is a visionary with a clear mission of the organization in his/her mind.
He must believe in this mission, to be enthusiastic about it and then he would be able to spread the mission and enthusiasm among other workers. It can happen if the leader is a founder of the company at the same time but we are not sure if it is possible to hire such leaders. If the people want to work for an adaptable company they have to choose some with an enthusiastic leader.
The second prerequisite for an adaptable organization is a business strategy, where the profit is not the most important aim. If the mangers are worried mainly about the financial indicators and about the mood of the shareholders they definitely will be not flexible because worry and fear eliminate creativity and adaptability.
It actually means that in the company must be shared values such as employee satisfaction, social responsibility and superior customer service.
The employees must be carefully selected, their culture fit must be tested, they must be enthusiastic about the mission of the company and their personal values must be coherent with company values. Of course, they must be talented and adaptable.
Another point is that the company have to support its people, take care of them and to encourage them experimenting. A mistake cannot be seen as a failure.
In our view, a great way to support adaptability is creating of diversified working teams. Diversified in respect of age, sex and culture (people with different cultural background). It is beneficial because different people see things differently. Diversified team can find very creative and flexible solutions. When the leader and mangers are also flexible and wise, the company would be strongly adaptable.
